ODM nominations in Busia county was on Thursday delayed due to lack of ballot papers.

The process which was to start at 6am had not yet started by 9am over lack of ballot papers.

Residents appeared to be confused, while some seemed exhausted and annoyed by the lack of coordination in the process.

A spot check by the Star found that officials and agents had not arrived at the centres by 7am.

But ODM issued a statement saying there was a mix up in the delivery of nomination materials in Teso North and Teso South causing the delay in the two constituencies.

"We wish to state that the National Elections Board has since sorted out the hitch and the process is now under way," said party communications director Philip Etale.

Funyula MP Paul Otuoma is expected to battle out the Gubernatorial seat with incumbent Sospeter Ojaamong.

"We are having challenges... voting materials have not yet arrived from six. People are already here but there is nothing happening here," Otuoma said.

Otuoma urged the residents not to loose hope but wait for the arrival of the ballot papers.

"Please stay in there we are encouraging them just

wait...

we hope the ballot papers will be here soon," Otuoma said.

The much anticipated party primaries officially kicked off on Thursday.

The exercise will be held in Busia, Bungoma and Machakos Counties on day one.

Kisii County will hold its nominations on April 20th while Nakuru County will hold its nominations on April 18th.

Last month, ODM National Elections Board said the

nominations across the country will be conducted through a secret ballot.

In a statement, NEB chairperson Judy Pareno said the process will be free, fair and transparent.

She said that anyone who has any intentions to cause violence or harass fellow aspirants will be dealt with.

"We want to assure all our members and aspirants that we do not intend in any way to use alternative modes of nomination including the Mlolongo method," Pareno said.

Those in 2013 were marred by chaos, especially in Nyanza and Western.
