Opposition leaders are only interested in sharing non-existent positions among themselves for selfish purposes, William Ruto has said.

The Deputy President said on Wednesday that this was at the expense of service delivery, unlike Jubilee that he said was keen on development.

“Kenyans were told to wait for a major announcement by Nasa leaders but that announcement turned out to be about sharing non-existent positions like Chief Minister,” he said.

“The difference between the Opposition and Jubilee is like day and night. What is important for Opposition leaders is to create positions for themselves while our focus is development," he added.

Ruto spoke at Mariakani and Mkapuni grounds in Kilifi county on

Wednesday.

He told the people that there was no need for them

to continue hanging on to Opposition parties which have "outlived their usefulness".

He said political parties were not religious cults that compel people to worship but should be pathways for achieving development.

“Don’t be misled to continue hanging on to parties which have nothing to offer in terms of development. I abandoned ODM because I realised it was not focused on development,” he said.

The DP urged Kenyans to work with the Jubilee administration saying it was committed to development and unifying Kenyans.

“It is time people here reviewed their political stand and knew that the Opposition has no development agenda for this region,” he said.

This, he said once again, is despite their previous senior positions as Prime Minister, Vice President and ministers, for which they have "nothing to show".

The DP was with MPs Gideon Mung'aro (Kilifi North), Mustapha Idd (Kilifi South), Mvita Mshenga (nominated) and Kaloleni parliamentary aspirant Kahindi Kidzao, a brother to Jimmy Kahindi, Speaker Kilifi County Assembly, who was also present.

The leaders said residents in the area were ready to embrace the Jubilee Party, adding that the opposition has nothing to offer coastal people.

“We are telling the opposition that Coast is no longer an Opposition zone because Kenyans are now more enlightened than before and want nothing short of service delivery,” Mung'aro said.

Mung'aro expressed outrage that close to Sh10 billion being dispatched to the county was being misused.

He said the national government and county governments had distinct duties, citing provision of water, healthcare, food and agriculture as those reserved for counties.

The MP said although the county was meant to provide water, ensure proper healthcare and rural roads were constructed, it instead misappropriated the funds.

Mung'aro said despite residents drinking dirty water, Governor Amason Kingi was busy organising beauty pageants costing Sh47 million.

The Deputy President also launched the last mile connectivity project at Mkapuni to benefit 700 households at a cost of about Sh20million.

He said it was only through provision of electricity that the residents could engage in meaningful development activities round the clock.

Earlier, the Deputy President inspected the ongoing tarmac work on the Mariakani- Bamba road.
