Seventy MPs and 150 MCAs have expressed interest in joining the Maendeleo Chap Chap Movement once it becomes a political party, Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua said yesterday.

He said the movement is focused on development, democracy, good governance and integrity. Mutua spoke to the Star after visiting traders in Mlolongo.

The governor said the movement has been received well since its launch last year. “The movement is open to everyone and we will certainly provide a forum for change come 2017,” he said.

Mutua said many MPs and ward representatives fear being “rigged out” of nomination tickets in their current parties. He assured Mlolongo residents that roads and drainage systems will be upgraded and modern sheds erected at the main market.

The governor said his movement offers a paradigm shift in the way politics and development are being handled. He said he is committed to improving residents’ lives.

The movement has opened offices across Ukambani and countrywide, and urged the public to register as members.

Mutua said his movement is the only “bonafide” Ukambani movement, managed by people from the community. The movement will provide solutions to local problems, he said.

“I am not interested in political supremacy. I want to ensure our people have better schools, hospitals, water and other basic amenities,” Mutua said.

He said an aggressive recruitment drive will be conducted countrywide with a target of registering one million people.

During a rally at a Machakos bus park last month, Mutua said Wiper “has blood links outside”.
