A fracas threatened to mar Jubilee interim elections in Nakuru on Tuesday after aspirants differed on the criteria used to select 19 officials to head the party in the county.

One camp wanted the officials to be while the other wanted them to be selected from the Gikuyu, Embu, Meru Association (Gema) and Kalenjin, Maasai, Turkana and Samburu Association (Kamatusa).

The second group argued that the criteria would assure every community had a person representing them.

But the first camp opposed this, saying it would propagate hatred and animosity among residents.

At one point, the meeting came to a standstill as aspirants threatened to exchange kicks and blows.

But the meeting continued smoothly when secretary general Veronica Maina from Jubilee's head office took over.

It was proposed by the majority aspirants to select one person from the 11 subcounties who will elect among them a chairperson to head the county's party office.

The aspirants then selected former Nakuru MP David Manyara as interim chairman.

Maina said the remaining eight slots will be shared among women, youths and people living with disability.

"Once I get back to Nairobi, I will ensure we have filled the remaining positions as required by Jubilee," she said.
