A woman who allegedly conspired with her American boyfriend to kill the husband in Watamu was released on Sh10 million bond by the High Court on Wednesday.

Malindi resident judge Said Chitembwe ordered the release of Amina Shiraz who had been detained at Malindi GK prison for two weeks.

Shiraz, who is charged with the murder of Jimmy Jagatram Baburam on July 26, 2015 at Medina Palms Resort, was ordered to deposit the cash with two Kenya sureties.

She is suspected to have colluded with Jacob Schmalzle- an American fugitive, to kill Baburam.

Shiraz was also ordered to deposit her passports in court and report at Gigiri police station in Nairobi once every month as well as attend all the mentions of the case.

Schmalzle, who is still at large and under police radar, is suspected to have worked with the woman to drown Baburam in a swimming pool at the said resort.

Chitembwe said that the accused is a Kenyan citizen, a mother of three and a businesswoman dealing with pets therefore needs bail to take care of her businesses and family.

Last week, Shiraz was reportedly rushed to Malindi sub-county general hospital for treatment after she complained of ill-health.

Senior assistant director of public prosecution Vincent Monda said he has 15 witnesses ready to testify against the accused.

The judge directed that the case be mentioned on November 17, with hearing set for

December 6 and 7.
