Stop burdening Raila with petty politics, Joho tells Nyanza leaders

ODM deputy party leader Hassan Joho has told leaders from Nyanza to stop burdening party leader Raila Odinga with petty politics.

Joho asked the leaders to instead focus on ensuring Raila wins the presidency.

He said infighting among leaders from the region is unhealthy for Raila's bid, adding that the party leader should be given space to woo voters from other regions.

"We don't want to see out leaders and supporters fighting over non-development issues ... We must remain united in all out strongholds to defear Jubilee int he first round of the 2017 presidential race," Joho said on Saturday.

Joho was addressing 400 ODM delegates at CITAM hall in Kisumu city before heading for a major roadshow and rally at Kirembe grounds.

He told elected leaders in Nyanza to rally behind Raila in "persons, wealth and their constituents" so that ODM can form the next government.

He said the only leader to salvage Kenyans from corruption, bad governance and intimidation is Raila.

Joho accused the Jubilee administration of insincerity on devolution, saying they were frustrating the process.

He said no viable and mega projects have been initiated in Nyanza region by President Uhuru Kenyatta and DP William Ruto.

"The mega projects in the current were initiated during the grand coalition government between retired President Mwai Kibaki and Raila," he said.

Earlier, Joho had urged leaders from ODM strongholds to conduct massive voter education in their areas.

The Governor said MPs, MCAs, governors and senators should ensure all eligible voters are registered.

“We are determined and focused to get more than 12 million voters registered in ODM strongholds,” the governor said.

Joho told party supporters to do whatever it takes to sell ODM agenda and ideas across the country to woo more voters.

He said Western and Nyanza should register all adults ahead of the 2017 poll.

Governors Jack Ranguma (Kisumu), Cyprian Awiti (Homa Bay), Cornel Rasanga (Siaya), Sospeter Ojaamong (Busia) and Okoth Obado (Migori) were present during the delegate meeting.

Senators Anyang' Nyong’o (Kisumu) Agnes Zani (nominated) and Elizabeth Ongoro (nominated) also attended.

MPs present were Opiyo Wandayi (Ugunja), Silvance Osele (Kabondo Kasipul), Aduma Owuor (Nyakach), Timothy Bosire (Kitutu Masaba), Rose Nyamunga (Kisumu Women Rep), and Opondo Kaluma (Homa Bay Town).

The national party Chairman John Mbadi, MPs Junet Mohamed (Suna East), Elijah Memusi (Kajiado Central), Millie Odhiambo (Mbita) and Woman reps Aisha Jumwa (Kilifi) and Mishi Mboko (Mombasa) also graced the event.
