Deputy President William Ruto yesterday represented Kenya at the inauguration of Zambian President Edgar Chagwa Lungu.
The ceremony was held at the National Heroes Stadium in Lusaka.
“Free and fair elections are an integral component of our democracy in Africa. We celebrate the peaceful elections held in Zambia that saw President Edgar Lungu elected,” Ruto said.
Lungu, of the ruling Patriotic Front, was sworn in for a second term following the August 11 polls in which he emerged winner with 50.35 per cent of the votes cast.
His challenger from the United Party for National Development, Hakainde Hichilema, garnered 47.35 per cent of the votes.
