KWS has reshuffled 14 senior assistant directors in charge of conservation amid growing disquiet within the service.

The transfers come three days after a crisis meeting held by senior managers ended in disarray.

A source said the management made the decision to "help address the growing dissent and the ongoing go slow that has seen service delivery across all parks dip".

"This is a classic example of running away from addressing the root causes of the crisis," the source added.

Anxiety has been growing at the Kenya Wildlife Service after the management centralised voucher payments.

Staff have termed the decision unnecessary and have argued that it has led to stalling of all field operations.

The system has also halted payment of travel allowances and per diems to staff.

The circular dated August 2 notes down reshuffles in parks and conservations areas across the country.

Among those affected is Julius Cheptei, assistant director in charge of the Southern Conservation Area that covers the Nairobi National Park.

Cheptei is now in charge of the Tsavo Conservation Area, replacing Robert O'Brien who has been moved to KWS Headquarters.

The Southern Conservation Area will now be manned by Daniel Onsembe, previously at the Director's offices.

Lydia Kisoyan who was in charge of Western Conservation Area now assumes assistant director Mountain Conservation Area role.

She takes over from Aggrey Maumo who moves to Central Rift Area.

Moving to the Western Conservation Area is Adan Alio, who was in charge of Coast Conservation Area.

His position has been taken up by George Osuri who was in charge of Central Rift Area.

Simon Gitau who was in charge of Eastern Conservation areas has been moved to Northern Conservation areas, replacing Michael Wanjau who has been moved KWS training institute.

Wilson Korir from KWS HQ's Conservation education and extension department has been sent to the Eastern Conservation Area.

Also affected are senior wardens Mohamed Kheri (Shimba Hills) and Godfrey Wakaba (Malindi). Kheri has been moved to Coast Conservation Area as Wakaba assumes his position.

Jane Gitau, warden 1 who was stationed at Mombasa Marine, will now be in charge of Malindi; whereas David Mokobi who was at KWSTI will be in change of Malindi 2.

"The affected officers are required to handover their current responsibilities and report to their new stations immediately," the circular of transfers read, arguing that the move is to enhance efficiency and effectiveness in the service delivery.
