A 20-year-old house help will remain in police custody for one week as police officers investigate an incident where she is accused of murdering an eight-month-old baby in Umoja 2 Estate.

The incident took place on May 18.

Regina Wambui, who appeared before Justice Stella Mutuka on Monday, did not take a plea because she did not have a lawyer.

According to a postmortem report by Dr Johannes Oduor at the Kenyatta University hospital mortuary, the baby's body exhibited signs of strangulation.

The report also showed spots on both sides of the baby's cheeks.

When questioned by the family, the house help claimed the baby had fallen from the seat and hurt her head.

Regina will plead to the charges on June 6.
