Road users should expect heavy traffic along the Mombasa-Nairobi Highway especially at Taru area on Wednesday.

The road will be closed from 6 am to 6 pm to allow for the erection of the Standard Gauge Railway overpass.

In an advert in Monday’s dailies, China Road and Bridge Corporation, contractors of the Standard Gauge Railway, are advising motorists to use alternative routes, and follow traffic police directives.

The company also said that traffic will be diverted to reduce the backlog, and assured that police will be deployed to ensure order during the operation.

The Mombasa-Nairobi SGR project is a Sh380 billion, 3-year railway project that will deliver the construction of a modern standard gauge railway track from the port city of Mombasa, to the capital, Nairobi.
