Police have allowed more than 1,000 Imperial Bank depositors to hold protests on May 31.

The protests will take place at the bank's Imperial Court headquarters along Westlands road. Depositors will be demanding the collapsed institution to release their funds.

In a letter dated May 18, Parklands Police station boss allowed the group's administrator Mohamed Khambiye to lead the group of depositors in the protest march between 12 noon and 3pm on May

31.

The protesters who are mostly businesspeople, charity organisations, and individual depositors are, however, required to maintain law and order.

They are barred from engaging in political violence during the process, and must present the permit whenever requested by police or administration police.

Khambiye had requested police to allow

depositors to protest against Imperial Bank directors.

While they are in support of the

CBK Governor, and the government, depositors are protestesting the lack of action against those who brought down the bank.

Read:

"This will be a 100 per cent peaceful protest and we will fully co-operate with all authorities," the group's administrator said.

"All we need is our voices heard and action

taken

against those who brought down this bank."

Khambiye acknowledged that, while the CBK governor has asked the directors to put in money to refloat the bank,

He said that depositors are suffering, and cannot sustain themselves since their monies are stuck in the bank.
