President Uhuru Kenyatta left for Kigali, Rwanda, on Wednesday for a forum on issues including
Africa's digital transformation and agriculture.
Uhuru will attend the 26th World Economic Forum alongside
entrepreneurs, leaders of international organisations, policy makers and several heads of state.
The forum is a platform for dialogue by Africa’s private, public and civil society sectors. Participants will discuss
economic opportunities and challenges and mobilise support for strategic interventions.
The President is expected to close the plenary session of the Grow Africa Investment Forum that was established by the African Union, the WEF and NEPAD.
The forum primarily focuses on increasing private investment in agriculture to ensure agriculture-led economic growth. This is in line with
the Malabo Declaration which Kenya adopted alongside the rest of the continent in 2014.
Uhuru will rally support for increased investment in the agricultural sector and explore avenues for
leveraging technology and innovation to improve the sector and protect small scale farmers.
He will also address the state of Africa's economic growth. Kenya has experienced robust growth relative to Sub-Saharan Africa and the wider international community.
But many African economies – including some of the largest economies – have experienced setbacks that have brought them to near stagnation.
Uhuru has expressed confidence that Africa will prosper
through diversification, industrialisation and increased investments in key sectors - energy, infrastructure, education and health.
He has called for strong and visionary leadership and greater regional cooperation.
The President and First Lady Margaret Kenyatta departed from the JKIA at about 9am and were seen off by DP William Ruto and other senior government officials.
The President will be in Uganda on Thursday to witness
the inauguration of President Yoweri Museveni.
