Two suspected criminals were shot dead on Wednesday on the Nyeri-Nairobi Highway.
An AK47 and 12 bullets were recovered from the thugs after an exchange of fire with police.
A Special Crime Prevention Unit officer was shot in the foot by the gunmen who were on a motorbike.
Police trailed the suspects from Sagana and killed them at the Mahigaini springs area in Mathira.
Head of Special Crime police Noah Katumo said the injured officer was out of danger.
