Nyandarua county has launched an Artificial Insemination programme to help dairy farmers improve quality of their animals and increase yield.

The county has signed an agreement with the Kenya Animal Genetics Recourse Centre and contracted 50 service providers to help implement the project.

Governor Daniel Waithaka yesterday said the programme will help dairy farmers access quality AI services at subsdised prices.

He spoke during the launch of the programme at Kipipiri Stadium.

Waithaka said the initiative was one of the promises in 2013.

“This is a dream come true,” he said

About 317,000 dairy cattle are reared in the county, with annual milk production worth Sh7 billion.
