President Uhuru Kenyatta on Thursday received credentials from incoming Ghanian High Commissioner to Kenya Ambassador Kwame Asamoah Tenkorang.

Speaking during the brief ceremony at State House, Nairobi, the President lauded existing co-operation between Kenya and Ghana.

“We endeavour to take the existing bilateral relations between our countries to a higher level for the benefit of our people,” Uhuru said.

He said Kenya and Ghana are strategically located in East and West Africa respectively and should step up their partnerships to link the two regional economic blocks.

Tenkorang said he has been tasked to ensure the cordial relations between Ghana and Kenya are grown to new heights based on bilateral agreements signed by the two countries.

Earlier, the President bade farewell to outgoing Algerian Ambassador to Kenya Saad Maandi.

Uhuru commended Maandi for enhancing bilateral relations between Kenya and Algeria during his tour of duty in the country.

The President recalled his State visit to Algeria last year, saying it opened up many avenues for cooperation between the two countries.

He said Kenya has a lot to learn from Algeria, especially in the energy sector and in the preservation of culture for education purposes.

Uhuru said the two countries have historical similarities and face same challenges hence the need to continue exchanging ideas on how to overcome them through local solutions.

Maandi thanked the President and the people of Kenya for supporting him during his tour of duty adding the two countries should continue working closely in addressing challenges facing them and the continent.

"Since your election, relations between the two countries have continued to grow stronger than before," the ambassador said.

Also present were Deputy President William Ruto and Foreign Affairs and International Trade Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohammed among other senior Government officials.
