Nick Mwendwa elected FKF chairman succeeding Nyamweya

Kariobangi Sharks chairman Nick Mwendwa has been elected the new president of Kenya football governing body FKF.

Mwendwa, who garnered 50 votes out of 77, succeeds Sam Nyamweya who of the race on Wednesday morning citing personal reasons.

Kenyan Premier League chairman Ambrose Rachier came second with 27 votes. He

conceded defeat and said he will work with Mwendwa.

Nyamweya, who has been at the centre of controversy,

pulled out of the race saying he will ensure a smooth transition and use his exit as an opportunity to improve Kenyan football.

He said he considers himself fortunate to have led a team that helped "sail the ship this far".

Other aspirants for the post were businessman Gor Semelango, former vice president Sammy Sholei, Sammy Aina and

Ken Oliech.

Doris Petra won the vice president post while National Executive Committee members are

Chris Ong'ondo (Nairobi), Mulla Mohamed (Northeastern) and Timothy Murithi (Eastern).

The rest are Joseph Andere (Nyanza), David Gikaria (Rift Valley), Anthony Kweya (Western), David Njoroge (Central) and Raphael Katana (Coast).
