The Migori government has rolled out a Sh8 million poultry farming project for women.

The Kuku Ni Pesa project is one of the initiatives started to empower women and youth in the 40 wards across eight subcounties.

More than 40 incubators and generators were on Friday handed to women’s groups.

Cord leader Raila Odinga’s wife, Ida, presided over the launch at Migori Primary School.

She urged other counties to emulate the project and improve women’s livelihood.

Ida said it is time for leaders to embrace such initiatives to boost the economy.

“Women are the mothers who will ensure their children are well taken care of. So empowering a woman is like empowering children,” she said.

Kuku Ni Pesa is being spearheaded by Governor Zachary Okoth Obado’s wife Hellen.

It is under the county’s Gender, Agriculture and Livestock Development and Trade departments.

Obado, who attended the function, said his government is committed to empowering women and youth.
