Nairobi MCAs yesterday visited the condemned Sh1 billion building at Lang’ata road and Mbagathi way and demanded it be demolished.
Led by assembly speaker Alex ole Magelo, more than 30 MCAs said the building is on riparian land.
They said it obstructs the flow of Mutuini-Ngong River causing flooding whenever it rains.
“This is a disaster in waiting, with the El Niño rains coming,” Magelo said.
MCAs have done their oversight role and it’s up to the executive to implement their resolutions, they said.
In June, Nairobi MCAs criticised a report by the assembly planning committee saying a developer had complied with construction regulations.
They said the developer of the five-storey building violated the rules.
The MCAs said the report by the Committee on Planning and Housing is misleading because the building is “literally” in the river valley.
They said the building might collapse because of its weak foundation.
