Mike Sonko has obtained a court order preventing a private developer from constructing on the land on which a grandmother's house once stood.

The Nairobi Senator said he obtained the order on Tuesday following the developer's demolition of the 102 year-old woman's house in Pangani, Nairobi.

Hannah Nzomo's house was flattened by bulldozers on Christmas Eve, under the guard of officers from Pangani police station.

Via a Facebook post, Sonko said Nzomo had lived since 1974 in the house that was destroyed by a "cursed, notorious and shameless landgrabber".

Reporting that the "goons hired by the grabber" stole the woman's belongings, he said he donated a wheelchair, food, items including sufurias, blankets and mattresses and building materials.

The developer, identified as Bire Hussein, was restrained from evicting, excavating, entering, taking possession of or interfering with the land in any way, until the woman's case is heard and determined.

The order was served on the Pangani police station OCS.

Members of the public built the woman a temporary structure, Sonko said, adding he hoped justice would be served.

Nairobi senior principal magistrate Linus Kassan also allowed the Senator to join the case as an interested party.
