A police source told The Star that an independent body might be established from headquarters to investigate police conduct in Mombasa.

The source said many officers could be arrested and charged for participating in drug trafficking. He claimed that some private cars belonging to police officers in Mombasa are being used to transport drugs within the region as well as other parts of the country.

Mombasa county commissioner Nelson Marwa had confirmed during a press conference in January that some police vehicles are being used to escort cars transporting drugs.

"The cars have been escorting vehicles at around 2am ,among those being escorted includes trucks and probox cars,"he said.
