A lawyer has been accused of forging government documents to help in the sale and transfer of land.

Musyoki Kimanthi was charged with defrauding Mimosa Investments of a parcel of land situated off Church Road in Westlands, Nairobi county between November 9, 2011 and June 3 this year.

He was also accused of forging a title deed on February 8, 2007 under the name of Ashok Kumar Asood.

Prosecutor Isaiah Mwiranga said Kimanthi forged the Registrar of Titles's, Fredric Indoko Lubulellah's, signature on the title deed.

Police said Kimanthi, jointly with others, forged the official rubber stamp of the Registrar of Titles and used it on the forged title deed.

The accused also forged the official land search claiming it was issued by Betty Atieno.

Kimanthi has been charged with forging the Department of Lands certificate stamp.

Nairobi principal magistrate Esther Nduva released Kimanthi on a Sh500,000 bail.

The hearing of the case has been set for September 9.

It will be heard together with another case already in court.
