JUBILEE is planning to kick out Kakamega Senator Bonny Khalwale from all the House Committees. The notice of motion to that effect was filed in the House yesterday by the majority leader, Kithure Kindiki.

Khalwale is a member of two committees in the Senate. He was appointed by virtue of a post-election agreement between his UDF party and the ruling coalition.

The agreement was signed between Musalia Mudavadi and President Uhuru in which both sides agreed to work together in the House.

The ruling coalition is accusing the legislator of betraying the agreement and working together with the minority coalition to undermine Jubilee’s legislative agenda.

In the motion, Jubilee plans to remove Khalwale from the committee on Finance, Commerce and Economic Affairs and the Committee on Implementation. He will be replaced by Beatrice Elachi and Ali Abdi Bule, both Jubilee nominated senators.

During the elections of the chairpersons of the House committees last week, Khalwale sided with Cord causing major setbacks in Jubilee’s attempt to control the committees.

Khalwale not only successfully proposed Siaya’s James Orengo to chair the Committee on Implementation but also competed with Jubilee’s Billow Kerrow for the control of the committee on Finance.

The competition between Khalwale and Kerrow caused a stalemate in the election of the chair of the committee with either side registering four votes apiece. The committee is not fully constituted as Kisumu Senator Anyang Nyong’o, who sits on the committee, is away on a foreign trip.
