DAP-K party leader Eugene Wamalwa has said he refused to sign the National Dialogue Committee report over President William Ruto's refusal to lower taxes.

He said the high cost of living and the tax burden on Kenyans were the main reasons the opposition held protests.

“I could not sign a report that was still a burden to Kenyans. The main reason why we had the talks was to reduce the taxes levied on Kenyans and the high cost of living,” he said.

The former Cabinet Secretary said Kenyans are suffering due to high cost of living.

Wamalwa said Azimio representatives were during the bipartisan talks, opposed to plans to give the office of the Prime Cabinet Secretary and the opposition more seats at the expense of the mwananchi.

“The Azimio is determined to protect the interest of the Kenyans, we are still on course to defend our people,” he said.

Wamalwa spoke in Bungoma when he received Auctioneer Zacharia Barasa to DAP-K.

He said the party will front Barasa to run for the Bungoma governor's seat in 2027.

“We have started to strengthen DAP-K in the grassroots. We are going to move around all counties to receive defectors as we plan for 2027,” Wamalwa said.
