Kenya 3×3 women’s team will start preparations for the World Championships final tour in Romania on Friday, coach Tony Ochieng has said.

Three more players, whom Ochieng did not name, will join the team in training ahead of the September 13-16 global showpiece.

“I will name three more players into the side to help us during internal training as well as future engagements,” said Ochieng.

The trio will join the quartet of Medina Okot, Jacqueline Kogo, Alexandria Juma and Babra Achieng, who featured in last month’s qualifiers.

Kenya booked their ticket with a 15-12 win over Uganda during the Fiba Africa Nations League South Conference in Nairobi.

He noted that 3x3 is on the rise in the country following the impressive showing during the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

“The Commonwealth Games was a good start. The results showed that our two teams are good and we can only get better from there,” he offered.

“The fact that a player like Darryl Omondi had a good performance in all his games shows we are catching up.”

Ochieng disclosed that he is keenly watching the North Conference finals, currently underway in Egypt.

“The other African qualifiers are going on in Cairo and I am keenly following them,” observed Ochieng. “I am also having another eye on the other qualifiers going on elsewhere, to find out my opponents.”

The men’s team finished fifth while the ladies' side were sixth at the Club Games held last month.
