The opportunity to win trophies and explore beyond the comfort zone informed Pauline Msungu's decision to ditch SEP Oyugis for Thika Queens.

Msungu, 24, has been acquired by the Kenya Women's Premier League defending champions after starring for the Nyanza-based side though she wasn't able to prevent Oyugis from relegation.

The dynamic midfielder was made captain after joining the team in 2019 from Vihiga Leeds where she had established herself.

"I am only 24 and as you know,  time flies. I want to win trophies before hanging up my boots. At the end of it all, any player will be judged by the trophies he or she wins. It is only possible with Thika going by their recent record," Msungu said.

The International Olympic Committee( IOC) Young Leader added: "I have tested myself in Zone 'A' and even though the league is unified once again, I have the chance to gain experience elsewhere. It was hard to say no to Thika and I want to learn alongside other youths from this part of the country."

Nakuru Queens and Vihiga Leeds missed out on Msungu's signature after courting her during the transfer window.

Msungu, who launched her career at Oserian 2014, is not afraid of competition, with the utility player looking forward to nailing down a regular spot in the star-studded midfield.

"I have a strong personality and I believe in my qualities. With my experience, I can compete for the best. I love competition and I have faced it throughout my career."

Society Empowerment Project (SEP) will forever remain in Msungu's heart after molding her into the player she is today.

Sep is a community-based organization focused on empowering youth and promoting community development in the rural town of Oyugis and in Homa Bay. The organization uses football to engage youth, teach life skills and develop community leaders.

"SEP is not like any other team you step into a training field and leave...there's more to it than football."

Apart from marshaling the midfield, Msungu is a skater, cyclist, sprinter, and social worker.
