Rudisha to be buried on Monday

Retired athlete Daniel Matasi Rudisha will be laid to rest today at his home in Oltanki, Trans Mara, Narok County.

Matasi who is the father of Olympic champion David Lekuta Rudisha died last Wednesday night aged  73.

Family spokesperson Shadrack Rudisha said a galaxy of international and local athletes are expected at the burial taking at their Trans Mara home.

"We expect more others especially political leaders among them Governor Samuel Tunai," he told the Star by phone from Nakuru where they went to pick his father's remains.

The deceased , himself legendary athlete , alongside Ezekiel  Nyamau, Naftal Bon and Charles Asati took  on the European splinters in the 1968 Mexico Olympics and went on to clinch victory  the 400m relay silver medals.

Matasi has been ailing for months prior to his death two weeks ago.

He is acclaimed to had mentored and nurtured the young Rudisha the world record holder for 800 metres.

David Rudisha' mother, Naomy,  was also 400m hurdler making the family  a mine of sporting talent.

The Rudisha' family has suffered set backs in the recent past with the death of Harriet Namunyak Rudisha, to cancer in 2018 .

Namunyak, 24, died at home in Trans Mara West on November 26, after battling lung cancer.

Yesterday, preparations went on late with family members hiring an event organiser to put up tents.
