Police officers in Chepalungu, Bomet county have arrested a man who has been masquerading as a police officer at Siongiroi market.
Victor Rono was arrested on Wednesday by officers from Lugumek police station who received reports that a man in police uniform had been extorting money from unsuspecting businessmen in the area.
He was arraigned in a Bomet court on Thursday where he was charged with two counts of impersonating a police officer and being in possession of a police uniform.
The accused who appeared before Bomet law court magistrate Pamela Achieng was charged with
falsely presenting himself as a police officer and assumed to arrest Enock Kipkirui Bett
at Siongiroi market.
He was also charged with being in possession of public stores namely one blue shirt, a reflector jacket, a pair of boots, a pair of socks and a navy blue long trouser printed Kenya Police.
The accused pleaded not guilty to both charges.
Achieng, in her ruling, ordered that he be detained for three more days as requested by the prosecution on behalf of the DCI to allow for further investigations.
The case will be mentioned on February 5.

Detectives from the Bomet DCI offices are now handling the matter.
Acting county DCI officer Jacob Mudi said the man had earlier been charged with obtaining money by false pretences by conning residents that he would secure employment for them in the county.
