A 13-year-old boy in Cheptais sub-county in Bungoma is undergoing treatment after he was allegedly assaulted by a police officer on Thursday.

According to the boy's father Timothy Jones, the boy was walking behind the drunk officer from the market when he suddenly turned against him after accusing him of stealing his phone.

The boy was set to report to form one at Kepenguria boys high school.

"He cannot go to school. We will have to wait until he fully recovers,' the father said.

Residents led by Kevin Simotwo said this is not the first case where the officer has beaten up a member of the public.

Bungoma police commander Francis sang said they are still investigating the matter.
