JUST what happened to the Kenya Railways plan to repossess their land that was encroached upon in various parts of the country? Last month, the agency descended on one of the plots that had been encroached upon by an MP and demolished the structures he had put up. But soon after the demolitions, the structures have started popping up again. So, is it a matter of stubborn developer or has a deal been struck with Kenya Railways? Does this sanitise encroachment? Maybe acting Kenya Railway managing director Philip Mainga should offer some explanation.

DID some MPs who accompanied a top politician to a fundraiser recently pocket some money they were given to donate? A little bird says two MPs donated less than the amount earlier agreed on by the boss's delegation, raising concerns that they might have decided to reward themselves. The politician is said to be philanthropic and gives his lieutenants money to donate in harambees, especially when they accompany him. The lawmakers get 'appearance' money for sparing their valuable time to attend such events. However, some MPs are too cunning for their own good. An MP from Nairobi who was part of the delegation has threatened to spill the beans.

A flamboyant lawyer in Nyanza has been the talk in his circles following questions about his sudden much-improved change if lifestyle. The advocate has rebranded his office, hired more staff at his firm and launched a hospitality facility in a prime area in his base of operation. The man also bought an SUV and relocated from his rented room to an upmarket settlement. However, all may not be well. There are questions regarding a contract running into millions of shillings, which he was paid recently. The man has been on the radar since the Office of the Auditor General flagged the irregular payments to his law firm.

ARE City Hall MCAs lobbying for the reinstatement of a senior officer who was suspended by Governor Mike Sonko late last year? An insider intimates to Corridors of Power that the MCAs, both in the opposition and in Jubilee, have been trooping to Sonko's office to urge him to bring back the officer. It is not clear why the ward representatives are pushing for the man's return, but our mole says the officer had a good ear for listening and always had an open-door policy during his time at City Hall. Our mole says the governor has listened to the MCAs and could soon bring back the popular officer with so many fans.
