Fire guts plastic factory in Mombasa

A fire razed a plastic factory at Jomvu area, Changamwe subcounty on Tuesday night.

Firefighters battled the fire which broke out at around 4pm for hours. The operation was still underway at the time of press.

The factory, Modern Soap, is located between warehouses and truck loading yards along the Nairobi-Mombasa highway.

No casualties were reported.

Changamwe OCPD Peter Omanwa said that the fire completely consumed a store for the factory's finished products.

Firefighters from the Kenya Ports Authority and county government responded to the incident.

Omanwa said that the cause of the fire is yet to be established.
