AP officer dies in Kabati accident

An Administration Police officer died in an accident near Kabati in Kandara, Muranga county on Saturday.

Two others, who were with the officer from a dowry event in Kirinyaga, were rushed to Thika Level 5 hospital with critical injuries.

The cops were driving back to Thika when their vehicle rolled several times before grinding to a halt.

The car was badly damaged, we suspect a case of speeding, Abdullahi Tatu - Maragua sub-county traffic in-charge, said.

All the officers are based in Thika West, Kiambu county.

It was in Kabati where former passed on in accident on November 7, 2017.

Tatu said they suspect the vehicle was speeding before it rolled at the dangerous stretch.

"A lady police officer who was driving the vehicle and a civilian escaped with minor injuries. They were treated at Kenol hospital and discharged."

The traffic boss said the body was taken to General Kago Funeral Home in Thika and the wreckage towed to Kabati police station.

"The car rolled after the driver attempted to avoid crashing on another vehicle which was heading in the same direction."

Tatu appealed to motorists who travel to their rural areas to drive cautiously in order to avoid such costly accidents.

"People go home, stay until late hours and speed on their way back to work, ending up causing accidents."
