Lamu sailors warned about dangerous floating pontoon

The Kenya Maritime Authority Lamu office has warned sailors of a possible collision with a pontoon (pictured) which detached at the Mtangawanda jetty. It is floating around the ocean, endangering smooth navigation.

The exact location of the pontoon is unknown. In a statement issued to journalists, sailors, sea users,vessels operating in islands located in Lamu East. Those plying Amu, Mtangawanda and the Lapsset area in Kililana are most likely to come into contact with the pontoon. A pontoon is a floatable heavy metal device connected to jetties. It is used as a landing site when boarding and alighting from boats and other vessels. The pontoon can cause untold damage if it hits a boat or other vessels.
