Transport CAS Chris Obure's driver was shot dead on Wednesday night at the civil servants' quarters in Kariobangi South, Nairobi.
Evans Omondi had parked his car at about 9 pm when a lone gunman accosted and shot him in the chest at close range.
The motive is unclear as nothing was stolen from him; his phone, wallet and other personal effects were found at the scene.
Nairobi DCI boss Ireri Kamwende said investigations were on and that updates will be given.
