Governor Mvurya fined Sh200,000 for snubbing committee

Kwale Governor Salim Mvurya will pay Sh 200,000 fine to Clerk of the Senate for snubbing a committee on May 9.

PAC vice chairman Lithuka Linturi yesterday invoked Section 19 of the Powers and Privileges Act after finding reasons advanced by the Governor for failing to appear as inadequate.

Mvurya who was appearing before the watchdog Committee to answer to audit queries raised by Auditor General Edward Ouko in the

financial year 2013/2014.

"By powers conferred to this committee by virtue of Section 19 of the Parliamentary Powers and Privileges Act that you will be liable to pay a fine of Sh 200,000 to the clerk of Senate, " ruled Lithika.

Mvurya on his part claimed he was committed and communicated the same Senate. He however had no proof of the communication.
