Kamworor, Kinyamal clinch belated StarTimes/SJAK awards

Three-time World Half Marathon champion Geoffrey Kipsang Kamworor and Commonwealth Games 800m titleholder Wyclif Kinyamal are the Startimes/ SJAK Sports Personality for the month of March and April respectively.
The duo became the ninth and tenth recipient of the award courtesy of pay TV provider StarTimes and the Sports Journalists Association .
Kamworor was recognized for his exploits in his recent exploits and specifically the 2018 World Half Marathon Championships in Valencia, Spain where he successfully defended his title for the second consecutive time.
A panel of Sports journalists settled on the 25-year-old ahead of motorsports ace Carl Tundo who sealed his 5th Safari Rally title.
Other nominees for the award were volleyball player Triza Atuka who was voted the best blocker at the women’s African Club Championships in Cairo Egypt,  Celliphine Chespol and Alfred Barkach who won the women and men senior races  respectively at the 5th Africa Cross Country Championships in Chlef Algeria.
Kinyamal helped Kenya reclaim the Commonwealth Games 800m title after world record holder David Rudisha was beaten to second place during the 2014 edition in Glasgow, Scotland.
Both athletes, contracted by Kaptagat-based Global Sports Communication, took home a 42-inch digital television set and Sh100, 000.
“This surprise is truly an inspiration as I progress with my athletics career. Thank you SJAK and StarTimes for this award,” said Kinyamal.
