With the next weekend’s Mashemeji Derby fever rising, AFC Leopards will test the sharpness of their claws against Bandari in a SportPesa Premier League encounter at Kenyatta Stadium, Machakos today.
The two teams have 35 points each with Bandari ranked third, a slot better of Leoaprds on goal difference.
In the last 16 matches the two sides have met, Leopards have recorded six wins against Bandari’s five while a similar number has ended evenly.
The match will pave way for a clash between Mathare United bottom-placed Wazito. Mathare are fifth with 34 points while the league newbies have 18 points. Thika United hope to erase their relegation fears when they take on Kakamega Homeboyz at Bukhungu Stadium. Thika, who lost most of their senior players during the June transfer window are second from bottom with 19 points and risk to relinquish their top flight status should they fail to arrest their poor form.
Kariobangi Sharks welcome back their playmaker, Duke Abuya, when they face 11-time champions Tusker at Camp Toyoyo. 2009 champions Sofapaka will be out to whittle the gap between them and leaders Gor Mahia to six points when they play Sony Sugar at Awendo on Sunday. Sofapaka have 40 points, nine behind the defending champions, who are not in action this weekend.
Nzoia Sugar stand-in coach, Vincent Sifuma will be seeking his first win when he rallies his charges against Chemelil Sugar at Chemelil Sports Complex in a ‘Millers Derby’ encounter. Sifuma took over the reigns two weeks ago after Bernard Mwalala threw in the towel citing personal reasons. In his past two duels in charge, Nzoia have lost to Sony (2-0) and played Posta Rangers to a barren draw.
Nakumatt will aim to redeem themselves from a 1-0 loss suffered in the hands of Tusker last weekend when they host Zoo Kericho at Camp Toyoyo.
Former champions Ulinzi Stars will hope to put their title chase back on track when they face Vihiga United in Mumias tomorrow. The soldiers are sixth with 34 points while Vihiga are 14th with 23 points.
