Uhuru appoints Muthaura as KRA chairman, Karangi pushed out of KAA

President Uhuru Kenyatta has appointed former

Head of Civil Service Amb Francis Muthaura as the chairman of the Kenya Revenue Authority.

The president, in a May 23 gazette notice, revoked the appointment of Edward Sambili - a former Central Bank of Kenya deputy governor.

The former Planning Permanent Secretary was appointed to the position by Uhuru on October 28, 2016.

Uhuru said Muthaura will serve in that post up to October 20 next year.

According to the notice, the appointment takes effect from May 22.

Charles Makori Omanga was appointed as a member of the board of the KRA to replace Abdi Bare Duale whose appointment was revoked.

Omanga will serve until June 14, 2020, effective May 30.

Other appointments contained in the gazette notice include that of Isaac Awuondo who was named the chairperson of the Board of the Kenya Airports Authority.

Awuondo, who is currently the managing director of Commercial Bank of Africa, will serve in that position for three years effective May 11.

He replaces retired Chief of Kenya Defence Forces

Julius Karangi.

Joseph Mutiso was appointed as a member of the KAA for a period of three years, with effect from May 22.

In yet another gazette notice dated April 28, Uhuru appointed Caroline Kariuki as the chairperson of the board of the Special Economic Zones Authority for a period of three years.

Kariuki replaces former Nairobi deputy governor Polycarp Igathe. Her appointment took effect from April 18.

Also given new appointment is John Waithaka who will now chair the board of Kenya Wildlife Authority for a period of three years effective May 21.
