Irish ambassador to Kenya Vincent O’Neill has caused excitement on social media after he rode an ox cart to open a school in Makueni.

On his tweet where he posted the photos, O`Neil said that he had visited St Patrick’s Primary School Kawese, Makueni county supported by Irish organization Kenya Child Foundation.

Read:

“Privileged to open wing of St Patrick’s Primary School Kawese, Mukeini County today following support from Irish organization Kenya Child Foundation. Access to the school difficult due to recent rains/muddy road no problem via Ox Cart,” O`Neil posted.

O`Neil is the first resident Irish Ambassador in Kenya in 26 years after Ireland closed its doors in 1998 during the financial crisis that hit the World.

This comes at a time when Makueni was voted during the fifth devolution as the model county following the strides it had made in devolution.

However, the recent rains have destroyed the roads rendering them impassible.

Last week governor Kivutha Kibwana said that the county needed Sh1billion to repair damages caused by the rains.

One Pinyluo Wacho Dholuo‏ wrote,”Thank you for the great work. I was a student at St. Anne's Primary School Nyabondo in Nyakach, LUOLAND, Kenya. My teacher was a marvellous and devoted nun called Sister Irene. It was in the 1960s; the times of Father LEO the priest who founded Nyabondo Mission. Thank You.”
