Kikuyus will back Ruto, says Waiguru

Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru yesterday said the Kikuyu community will stand by DP William Ruto in the 2022 election at all cost.

She expressed confidence Ruto will succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta.Waiguru told Rift Valley residents not to have any fears or doubts about the Kikuyu support.

“That’s why I’m here to assure that we already have our President for 2022 and that is DP Ruto,” she said in Eldoret, where she joined Ruto and Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago at the first edition of the Eldoret Marathon.

Waiguru praised the DP for his efforts to unite Kenyans and said he deserves to take the mantle from Uhuru.

“We’ll support Ruto to ensure the presidency comes this side in 2022,” the county boss said.

Nyandarua Woman Representative Faith Gitau said the Mt Kenya communities have decided to back Ruto. “That is a done deal and we are only waiting for 2022,” she said.

Those present also included Governors Stephen Sang of Nandi, Josphat Nanok of Turkana, Stanley Kiptis of Baringo and Alex Tolgos of Elgeyo Marakwet, and Nyeri Woman Representative Rehab Mukami.

The marathon, whose winners won Sh3 million each, was organised under the theme of ‘Climate Action’. It sought to create awareness of environmental conversations.

Ruto urged Kenyans to actively participate in environmental conservation efforts.

“The nobility of this idea cannot be overstated. This should be just the beginning of many more of such events,” he said.

Waiguru praised the organisers and welcomed athletes to the upcoming Mwea Marathon. Athletics make Kenya famous at the international stage and should be used to promote unity, she said.

“We have to conserve our environment for future generations. In Kirinyaga we have already started,” Waiguru said.
