7.5 magnitude earthquake strikes Papua New Guinea

A 7.5 magnitude earthquake has struck Papua New Guinea’s

Southern Highlands near the center of the country, US Geological Service (USGS) reported.

The quake was centered 35 kilometers, according to USGS and just 10 kilometers, according to European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC).

Its epicenter was in a mountainous region around 40 kilometers north of Mount Bosavi.

The extent of damage, injuries or fatalities, if any, could not be immediately established.

On April 19, 2014, an earthquake of 7.5 magnitude struck the pacific nation’s eastern coast.

It occurred occurred at a depth of 19 miles (32 km), the USGS said.

It was centered 47 miles (75 km) southwest of Panguna, Papua New Guinea.
