IEBC ready for by-elections, says Chebukati

The IEBC is ready for by-elections, Chairman Wafula Chebukati has announced.

Chebukati noted on Thursday that they prepared in advance for any eventualities due to the numerous petitions filed in court after the August 8, 2017 general election.

"We already had a budget for the by-elections as we saw how candidates moved to court to challenge the election," he said.

Chebukari said they had received five cases that will likely end in by-elections.

He added they were waiting for verdicts in appeals for elections that were nullified.

The IEBC boss spoke at Mombasa Law Courts after casting his vote in Law Society of Kenya elections. The commission oversaw the process.

Kitui West will vote again for an MP following Francis Nyenze's death. In Lamu West, MP , the Malindi High Court saying there were massive irregularities.

In Homa Bay and Wajir counties, Cyprian Awiti and Mohamed Abdi filed appeals after the elections as Governors were nullified.
