The outgoing St Patrick's

Iten

principal has welcomed his transfer and termed it a promotion as he will be in charge of more students.

Wilson Yego will move to

St Joseph’s Boys High School in Kitale, which he noted has more students.

"A transfer from a school with low enrollment to one with high enrollment is a promotion," he said at

a students’ mentorship meeting in Tuturung, Marakwet East, on Tuesday.

“I would have been the principal of St Patrick’s High School until Thursday next week but I am now the new principal of St Joseph’s. I see this as a promotion given the higher enrollment."

He noted readiness to

leave the Elgeyo Marakwet school when learning resumes next Tuesday.

Yego will be replaced by St Joseph’s outgoing Principal Peter Obwogo.

St Joseph’s was ranked 23rd nationally with a performance index of 63.66 while St Patrick’s had a mean score of 60.75 and was position 73 in KCSE examination results.

Yego's remarks come on the backdrop of

opposition by KNUT to the transfers of 557 principals by the Teachers Service Commission.

Union secretary general Wilson Sossion has warned they will down their tools and that learning will not resume next week if the decision is not reversed.
