A man and his son were arrested with 15 elephant tusks worth Sh5.4 million in Kisima area, Samburu county on Friday evening

DCI officers disguised as buyers arrested the two as they tried to sell them the ivory.

Area investigating officer Isaac Onyango said detectives had been trailing the suspects for some time.

He said the tusks did not appear to come from a fresh kill.

The men are being held at Maralal police station and will be arraigned on Monday.

Samburu Central subcounty is commonly used by poachers to smuggle illegal trophies.

Elsewhere in Kwale, two men were arrested with two pieces of ivory worth approximately Sh4m.
