Lawyer Nelson Havi has been disqualified by the LSK from contesting for the President's seat during the forthcoming elections.

In a letter dated December 13, chief executive Mercy Wambua said he was ineligible to vie for failing to meet the basic requirements.

Wambua said Havi has not been a member or former member of the LSK Council as required by the council statute.

She also stated that the renowned city lawyer does not hold the necessary qualifications to be a judge of the Supreme Court in line with LSK laws and the Constitution.

Wambua further informed Havi that he will not have attained 15 years of service as a legal practitioner since he was admitted to the bar by the time LSK will be holding elections on February 12.

“Having been admitted on June 12, 2003, you shall have attained at least fifteen years’

experience

as a legal practitioner stipulated by Article 166(3)(b) on June 12, 2018, which date is over three months after the election date and over two months after the latest date at which the elected Council shall assume office,” Wambua said.

Havi was among the group of lawyers who drafted NASA leader Raila Odinga's presidential petition that led to the invalidation of President Uhuru Kenyatta's win in the August 8 election.

The February polls will mark the end of incumbent Isaac Okero's tenure after a two year stint at the helm.

Meanwhile, three candidates were cleared to replace Okero.

They are Allen Waiyaki, Judith Achieng and Aggrey Otigo.

Harriette Chiggai and Joy Brenda Masinde were cleared to vie for the vice president's position.

Nominations by Roseline Odede and Francis Masika for the position of general member representative (of at least 25 years standing) were also accepted.

A total of 36 other candidates were nominated to vie as Nairobi representative, Coast representative, upcountry representative, disciplinary tribunal and general member representative.
