Police are searching for 15 hardcore criminals, including foreigners, who are believed to be behind attacks in Eldoret.

More than 300 cases have been reported in the last three months, Uasin Gishu county Commissioner Abdi Hassan reported on Tuesday.

Hassan said some of the cases were handled and that officers were instructed to find and deal with the criminals he described as dangerous.

“Some of them took advantage of the election period to perpetrate serious crimes and cause fear among residents of Eldoret and other parts of Uasin Gishu."

He spoke during

Jamhuri Day celebrations in the town, that Governor Jackson Mandago, DG Daniel Chemno and Majority leader Josphat Lowoi attended.

The commissioner warned that crimes will not be tolerated and that security will be tight during the festive season.

“If you are one of the criminals we are looking for, you better run away before we catch you. We will have no time for recording statements and interrogation. We will deal with you once and for all."

Hassan said Langas and other parts of Eldoret were under surveillance as the most wanted criminals are believed to be hiding there.

He noted crime rates had declined since the crackdown began and five of these offenders

were killed in the last month.

Hassan said the night ban on boda boda operations will be implemented strictly during the holidays.

“Some of them assist criminals. Those found operating after 11 pm and before 5 am will be considered criminals."

Mandago said the county fully supported the operations and that boda boda riders will be vetted from January and asked to join saccos and observe traffic regulations.

The Governor also directed that street families and beggers be removed from the town centre from Thursday.

He said they will be taken to the rescue centre in the town for vetting and further action by the county government.
