A driver and bodyguard attached to Agriculture PS Agriculture Richard Lesiyampe escaped with minor injuries when they were attacked by armed bandits on the Suguta/Marmar-Rumuruti road on Sunday night.

Driver Paul Mwangi and police officer Lelesit Mbaiyu were ambushed at 7pm near Rumuruti.

They were on their way to Nairobi from Mararal where they had gone for an official duty.

The bandits roughed the officers up and stole an unknown amount of money, their telephone sets and personal items.

They also escaped with the police officer’s pistol.

The officers were rescued by Samburu Governor’s Security team who were driving on the road.

Lesiyampe was not in the car at the time of the incident.

The attack was reported to the Rumuruti police station.
