President Uhuru Kenyatta will not hesitate to sign the election laws amendment Bill into law once Parliament approves.

Uhuru defended the Bill on Tuesday, saying its contents echo matters raised by the Opposition so it is surprising its leaders are against it.

"I have no problem with that law and if Parliament passes the bill, I will sign it," he told

Kaloleni residents.

"I don’t have any problem with it because in it are the contentious issues the Opposition raised."

Earlier today,

Jubilee dropped a clause that could have allowed non-lawyers to chair the electoral agency.

The select committee on amendments to election laws has also dropped a clause delegating some of the chairman's powers to the vice chair or other IEBC commissioners.

Also dropped, ahead of debate on Tuesday afternoon, was a clause that sought to reduce the quorum at the commission from five to three.

NASA legislators have rejected the changes and have declared they will boycott any parliamentary sitting to debate amendments to the laws.

The President accused Raila

of trying to derail the voted but noted it will take place as planned.

"We are busy looking for votes - and we in Kaloleni today - while he has now resorted to press conferences. If he is sure votes were stolen, why isn't he ready to go to the ballot again after the Supreme Court verdict? If he does not do so, we shall continue serving the people."

NATIONWIDE DEVELOPMENT

Uhuru

assured Coast residents the region will not be sidelined in development just because it did not give him many votes on August 8.

"I know even the person who voted for the Opposition is a Kenyan who is expecting me as the President to deliver. I will definitely do that...flagship projects undertaken by my administration will not be abandoned."

Ruto noted the more than 50,000 presidential votes the region garnered helped them win so Jubilee Party will not leave Kilifi out of development.

The county boss is Amason Kingi, a member of Raila's ODM party.

The DP said: "We know you participated in a constitutional exercise and the results you gave us are what you managed to give. We are not bitter. We are all Kenyans and Kilifi people are part of Jubilee government. We will not abandon you."

Ruto said roads had been constructed and that many more projects are underway in the region.

"It is my hope that you will participate in the rerun and vote for us. We are determined to make sure we walk the same path."

Gideon Mung’aro, who was Jubilee's candidate for Kilifi Governor, urged the people to vote to Uhuru as a show of gratitude for the projects he has implemented in the region.

"The President listens to everything that comes from the region. He commits his time to act on our issues but we tend to forget so quickly," he said.

"It is time to show the President our appreciation for the good work he is doing. That is by voting for him in the rerun."
