Kenyan poet Kariuki wa Nyamu, a Makerere alumnus, had a glorious return to Uganda this month, as he emerged winner in the continental competition hosted by the country, Babishai Poetry Festival.
He won the Haiku Prize, whose shortlist included Ugandan Charlotte Akello.
Guests at the festival, which ran from August 4-6 in Kampala, pulled out a mixture of cultural and urban gear for the occasion.
Spoken word duo Cadilux and Wake the Poet dressed in the colours of the Ugandan flag, while poet Rashida Namulondo and The Triangle author Nakisanze Segawa stunned in black evening gowns.
Babishai was founded by Beverley Nambozo in 2008 to celebrate and reward African poetry.
