MaryJane Mwangi has been appointed National Oil Corporation of Kenya acting Chief Executive Officer, replacing Sumayya Hassan-Athmani.

Sumayya left the Corporation at the beginning of July 2016, after being reinstated.

The board said Mwangi's appointment takes effect immediately.

Prior to her current appointment, Mwangi was the General Manager in charge of Downstream Operations at National Oil.

The outgoing CEO has been at the helm of the state oil company for the past 5 years.

Sumayya was sent on compulsory leave in February this year after the board, which was constituted in May, demanded a full audit of the corporation’s operations in light of a Sh270 million loss booked for the half year period of the current financial year.

The board further ordered a forensic audit to be carried out by November last year but it failed due to “interference by management”.

Sumayya was however reinstated after a few days, as the board proceeded with auditing.
