Everton Vs Chelsea Today 2:45pm

My Prediction: The Toffees 1-1 The Blues

The premier league resumes today with this really hot fixture! Everton are 9th in the standings with just one loss so far, to the dreaded Manchester City and Chelsea who believe it or not are 13th, with two losses so far; one to the league leading City and the other to Crystal Palace. The Palace loss stung Jose Mourinho really hard because it was at Stamford Bridge. The Blues have had a series of problems in defence since the season started. Mourinho was quick to add to the back line before the transfer window closed two weeks ago. He notably brought in 26-year-old defender Papy Djilobodji from Nantes. The bad news for the Blues is that goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois got injured in training and now faces a long spell on the sidelines. Toffees boss Roberto Martinez is said to be literally “singing in the shower” over this development. Martinez didn’t do so well last season and is looking to get in some key points under his belt before the season gets too far. Hopefully he’ll be the one smiling at the end of 90 minutes at Goodison Park today.

Arsenal Vs Stoke City 5pm

My Prediction: The Gunners 3-1 Stoke

Last season Arsenal beat Stoke City 3-0 at Emirates and lost 3-2 away. Infact Arsenal have failed to do the double over Stoke since the 2009/10 season and even in that season it was Stoke that knocked Arsenal out of the FA Cup. So this is officially our bogie team. I remember the days of Rory Delap in which I would sigh whenever Stoke got a throw in anywhere in our half. It almost always never ended well. But Stoke have had a tough start to their season. They sit in the relegation zone without a single win this term. They’ve lost to Liverpool and West Brom and drawn with Spurs and Norwich. The Gunners meanwhile are picking up on their season despite Manager Arsene Wenger not adding to the squad. I am confident that Arsenal will be okay for at least one half of the season but when injuries set it; that’s when the lack of key players in certain positions will be exposed. Danny Welbeck is now out for a while but I didn’t really expect much from him. Per Mertesacker is back and hopefully sharper than he was before. Today I know the three points belong to the Gunners but I’ll worry when we play bigger games.

Manchester United Vs Liverpool 7:30pm

My Prediction: The Red Devils 1-2 The Reds

What a big fixture! In the old First Division; before 1991, this was the biggest clash of the season; yes bigger than Arsenal vs Manchester United. For fans in England this is still arguably the biggest clash because they are the two most successful clubs in English League Football. Interesting that these teams meet each other when their fortunes are similar. Both clubs have two wins a loss and a draw under their belts in the league and Man United are only ahead on goal difference. This means a win here would make a huge difference to positions in the table. Both clubs also lost their last fixtures, United 2-1 to Swansea and Liverpool smacked 3-0 by West Ham. I think LVG did quite a bit of panic buying over the transfer window while Liverpool’s moves appeared more strategic. With Daniel Sturridge likely to start this game; I actually see the Reds getting one over the Red Devils; slightly given that Wayne Rooney will score. So Liverpool just need to score more; and they can.
